The Pirate Bay website quietly runs a cryptocurrency miner on visitors’ PCs, gobbling up CPU cycles

The Pirate Bay surprised many of its users when it added a JavaScript-based cryptocurrency miner to its website. On 16 September, users began posting on Reddit about how they’d seen a significant jump in CPU when they visited The Pirate Bay, a popular torrent site which suffered a malvertising campaign back in April 2016.
