The ACLU Tweets ‘Don’t Prosecute’ In Weird Backpack-Recording Device Case

An odd felony charge took the internet by storm last week when a Virginia mother was accused of intercepting wire, electronic or oral communications after placing a recording device in her child’s backpack in September to catch classroom bullies. While the American Civil Liberties Union of Virginia is still researching the case, its account tweeted “Norfolk prosecutor Gregory Underwood has the absolute power to drop all charges against Sarah Sims, a concerned, well-intentioned mother,” urging Virginians to “ask him to exercise his discretion and not prosecute her.” The organization also retweeted its 2016 post “Unparalleled Power:
